I have a soft spot in my heart for the military. Especially, our troops who are fighting for us, as we speak. Maybe, it is because I have two relatives that are overseas in Iraq. Perhaps, it’s the 4 friends alive, and fighting for our country. Or, the fact that I have personally known a soldier or two who has died while in active duty.
It’s hard hearing the conditions they face. Especially, when I am sitting in my own bed, with sheets of quality thread-count, and they can’t even get decent spaghetti. The noodles in Iraq turn to mush when they touch water. Clint, my uncle (who is 5 years older than I) sends requests to us of certain foods. A country boy, who misses his country cooking. Care packages are sent to him, with beef jerky, and electrolyte flavor packets that mask the unpleasant taste of the water. Baby powder, to help ease their boots onto sweating and swollen feet. Love and care go into those packages; but it’s never enough. Loved ones don’t feel like they are doing enough to show care, concern, gratitude.
You may already know about Red Fridays. For those who don’t, here is a quick rundown of the concept.
Very soon, you will see a great many people wearing Red every Friday. The reason? Americans who support our troops used to be called the “silent majority.” We are no longer silent, and are voicing our love for God, country and home in record breaking numbers. We are not organized, boisterous or overbearing.
Many Americans, like you, me and all our friends, simply want to recognize that the vast majority of America supports our troops. Our idea of showing solidarity and support for our troops with dignity and respect starts this Friday — and continues each and every Friday until the troops all come home, sending a deafening message that … every red-blooded American who supports our men and women afar, will wear something red.
By word of mouth, press, TV — let’ s make the United States on every Friday a sea of red much like a homecoming football game in the bleachers. If every one of us who loves this country will share this with acquaintances, coworkers, friends, and family, it will not be long before the USA is covered in RED and it will let our troops know the once “silent” majority is on their side more than ever, certainly more than the media lets on.
The first thing a soldier says when asked “What can we do to make things better for you?” is …”We need your support and your prayers.” Let’s get the word out and lead with class and dignity, by example, and wear something red every Friday.
IT IS YOUR CHOICE.
WE LIVE IN THE LAND OF THE FREE, ONLY BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE!!

I don’t want to turn this post into political warfare. No matter what your political preference is, whether you agree or disagree with what our leader has done. Every man, woman, and child should support our troops. You may oppose the war; but, don’t oppose the men and women who are serving our country. They are proud to wear the uniforms, the flag, and they are serving us. Until they all come home, show them your support.

You can start here. Post this image on your blog, to help spread the word about Red Fridays. Write a post about it, stick it in your sidebar. And, start wearing Red on Fridays. It’s the least we can do for them.
And, sign Mr. Linky below, so that others can see your support.

Thanks for this post! My very best friend is currently serving in Iraq, and I try my best to think of her every day and what she is sacrificing for our freedom.
Andria,
I’ve been reading your blog for awhile and I relate to you alot. I definitely support our troops and hope others do to - bring them home safely soon!!
My great grandmother said that it is the old men who start the wars and the young who have to finish them. Although I do not support the old men I have admiration and respect for my fellow young Canadian men and women who risk their lives everyday for others.
Thanks for the info on this mission. I will definitely put a post on my blog and email friends that don’t go to blogs. I am so proud of all that serve to protect us. I know it’s their choice and I’m glad they are so selfless.
Thank Andria for the information. I too think it is important to support our troops. I will be glad to share the information and have it on my blog.
Thank you so much for posting this. I’m not sure how many people know about this, but it’s a good reminder too. My husband is currently deployed, and I know the red is an encouragement to the troops (no matter where they are, here or overseas), as well as the families! Let them know they are appreciated and supported!
